When it comes to children's safety, Mitsubishi is taking innovative measures to ensure kids are protected in the backseat, at all times. We're talking measures beyond the four-wheel ABS, electronic stability control, brake assist and advanced airbag system found in the award-winning 2012 Outlander Sport (2012 IIHS Top Safety Pick).

Specifically, the Japanese automaker is joining forces with Kids Safety First and Dorel Juvenile Group USA, to provide safety restraint checks at various new Mitsubishi dealerships, cross-country. Last year, such events showed that a whopping 84-percent of child restraint systems were not properly installed in vehicles. This is a frightening number considering that traffic related incidents accounted for 1,210 child-fatalities and 171,000 injuries in 2011.

One of Mitsubishi's counterparts, Kids Safety First, is an all-volunteer, grassroots NPO which provides free automotive child safety materials not only to families, but to police, hospitals, schools and pre-natal centers as well. Its other, Dorel Juvenile Group USA, is the largest global manufacturer of children's safety seats and as such, is donating thousands of dollars in car seats towards each event.

"The safety of children while riding in a motor vehicle is at the forefront of our mission," says Dave Taylor, President and CEO of Dorel Juvenile Group. "We believe our partnership with Kids Safety First allows us to reach hundreds of families and truly make a meaningful difference in their lives."1
