There's no doubt that Mitsubishi is embracing environmental responsibility like never before, but some are worried that means the Japanese automaker will lose sight of its performance-driven heritage. Of course, these are also two aspects of the automotive world that do not need to remain exclusive. And to prove it, Mitsubishi may be planning on making a drastic change to one vehicle in its lineup.

Specifically, a new report indicates that an electric version of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution may be in the works. And while there's no word on when it would join the greater new Mitsubishi lineup, we may have already seen proof of the plan earlier this year.

And what would that be? The impressive performance of the Mitsubishi i in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb earlier this year.

"We wanted to find the limitations of EV (electric vehicles)," explains Mitsubishi Motors Global President, Osamu Masuki. "(We now) have quite a lot of information after doing this."1 This information will likely be used to create a performance EV that attracts both environmentally conscious drivers and speed demons alike, but it may be some time before such an offering is finished, as Mitsubishi is looking to enter the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb again next year in order to solidify its findings.

Keeping that in mind, Skyline Mitsubishi invites you to stay tuned for more information regarding the potential development of an electric Mitsubishi Lancer.
