The past year has been big for Mitsubishi with the innovative Mitsubishi i making its way to the United States and the arrival of revamped models across the globe. But despite the fact that European consumers are thoroughly enjoying the influx of new Mitsubishi models at their dealerships, the automaker has decided to pull out of production in the Netherlands.

More specifically, the Mitsubishi factory in the city of Born, NedCar, will cease production of the Mitsubishi Outlander and the Mitsubishi Colt by the end of this year. Why? Largely because of the economically climate in which it sits. Company officials state, "Due to the wildly fluctuating operating environment which automobile manufacturers face the factory was not viable."1

Such challenges facing Mitsubishi and others include the soaring Yen. In order to combat this issue, the automaker will continue to sell its models in Europe but import them from areas such as Thailand and Japan. In addition to these locations, Mitsubishi recently broke ground for a factory in Indonesia where creation of the Outlander will quickly pick up.

As for the Colt, Skyline Mitsubishi can't be sure where this overseas model will find a home.
