Trying something new in the automotive world can be a bit nerve-racking, especially for consumers who have come to rely on the constancy of a certain brand. So it's understandable that some may raise an eyebrow at the next step in hybrid technology that Mitsubishi is taking. Skyline Mitsubishi, however, has a great amount of confidence in the automaker and thinks that the eleventh-generation Mitsubishi Lancer Evo with hybrid-diesel power may just be what the green car industry needs.
Considering the hybrid vehicle's unsuccessful record on the racetrack, it is a bit unexpected to see Mitsubishi put forth such an effort as a hybrid-diesel Lancer Evo. However, taking into account the model's lower emissions and improved fuel economy, we are thinking it will gain a great amount of favor with a bit more, well, "responsible" audience. According to Autocar, the new Mitsubishi racer will get a modified version of the S-AWC four-wheel drive system with steering and traction control, integrated braking and rapid acceleration. Not bad performance-wise for a model that scoops up heavy green points as well.
As far as where the new Lancer Evo will end up, Mitsubishi President Osamu Masuko says that after withdrawing from the World Rally Championship a while ago, the automaker has no plans to return. Masuko has, however, made a strict plan for the model's production timeline.
"We will start work on the project next year, and it will be ready within three. I have set a goal of developing a sporting car featuring electric power,"1 Masuko confirmed.
It is that kind of dedication that makes Skyline Mitsubishi at 2040 W. 104th Ave. Thornton, CO 80234 proud to carry the Mitsubishi brand.
