The soon to be released Mitsubishi i EV, based off the i-MiEV in Japan, will be rented out by Hertz rental car corp. - at least across the pond in the UK.

Rental car giant Hertz will be added the battery powered i-MiEV to its UK fleet, but first it will only be available to those in the "Connect by Hertz" car-sharing club. Looking for new ways to cut down on CO2 output and a push by customers looking for greener options, Hertz opted to add the EV to its lineup.

Hertz added they want to make sure its "easy for consumers to recharge their car's battery while they are out." They have already installed 16 different charging stations all over London. Mitsubishi's i car battery can be charged to 80% in 30 minutes.

Hertz UK managing director, Neil Cunningham, said, "company is already using these kinds of cars in the United States. They now want to roll out this idea to cities in Europe as well. They want to offer these cars in areas where there is a demand for electric cars."
