News that Mistubishi planed to pull the plug on the Eclipse, Endeavor and Galant by 2014 broke this January. Somehow, simply knowing that we had a good three years to enjoy the models made the news a little easier to swallow. That and the fact, Mitsubishi promised to introduce eight new hybrid and battery-powered EVs by 2015.
Things don't always go according to plan, though.
For, Mitsubishi has suddenly decided to pull the plug on the Eclipse and
Endeavor a lot sooner than was originally planned. Specifically, production of
these two models is not slated to end this month!
What about the Mitsubishi Galant? At this point production will continue as originally planned through 2014, until further notice.
For those not previously informed on the retirement of the Mitsubishi Eclipse (i.e., 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse, 2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse, 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder, and 2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder), Mitsubishi Endeavor, and Mitsubishi Galant, please let us explain the Japanese automaker's seemingly drastic decision. Each of the vehicles is produced at their Illinois production facility. All three are being cut to make room for enhanced production of the popular Mitsubishi Outlander Sport as well as the aforementioned all-new hybrid and EVs.
